Anime vs. Manga?

What do you prefer and why?

I prefer manga. The difference between anime and manga, disregarding the obvious, is that anime usually takes couple months, a year at the longest, to get finished while manga can, and should, take years. In effect, when a manga gets popular, anime version comes out, almost always lacking the manga-version's charm. Even when manga gets published due to anime version's popularity, the plot changes, intended or not, since the author usually has different opinion about the work than the director. It becomes a nice side story for fans, or may even replace the anime to be "how it really happened."

Of course, there are lots of manga that are less than 5 volumns published due to popularity of the anime counterparts. IMO, if the manga is less than 3 vol atleast, its not good since it means that the manga is a recap of the anime, or depending on anime to fill the blanks.

Although I haven't watched too much anime nor read too much manga, I prefer anime for now, as it's color (color is very important for me), it's well, animated, and it has voices - usually nice voices, as in Chobits (Jap. version at least).

The manga takes longer to be done? That must be because the anime was already pre-designed (having characters, plot, some dialogue, and concept art done in the manga), and it was done by a larger team of people, because it's technically more work, having animations (not still images), color, and requiring voice actors and video editors.

The art is usually higher res but it's B&W, I wouldn't mind paying more for manga if it were color.

Filler episodes can be good, IMO the Chobits anime filler episodes rock, they make the series so fun to watch.

I tend to prefer Manga over Anime, mainly because it is easier to get ahold of and many animes are based on Manga, giving you what the original creator wanted and not a board of directors cuts.

Manga takes longe rbecause it's ongoing.... the author just doens't sit down and make the entire series, they release 1 chapter a week/biweekly/month/whatever.

I prefer manga becasue it usueally delves more into the characters thoughts, the plot can be done better, and there usually isn't filler.

Plus you can take in the art better, and the art is usually much better done.

Anime: well, it's animated, has music, voices and action scenes can work better (providing the budget is there). Problems is you need a TV to watch it and it's expensive to buy. Downloading has tons of moral problems.

Manga: Cheaper, can be read anywhere. No fear of bad dubs or music. More creative. More selection. Less limits on content compared to anime.

Preference, right now, i'm really in the anime mode, but with a short lapse coming soon, i may be able to make up on the manga scene. the main problem is the lack of being able to buy any nearby.

Note, manga is not cheap, and it can, and often does, suffer from inaccurate or poor translation. Manga is not cheap in US. It ranges from $13-20, while the Japanese copies are about $1-3. See the difference?
